September 17-20, 2008 2008 USCID Global Climate Change Conference - Portland, OR
The title of this year's conference is "Managing Water in a Climate Changing World: Implications for Irrigation, Drainage and Flood Control."

Accelerating changes in the global climate are changing the way water is managed in the American West. Some of the resulting impacts, such as increased crop water demands, are only beginning to be felt, while others, such as earlier melting of mountain snowpacks, are already well advanced. Water managers will increasingly be confronted with decision situations where old rules and old expectations no longer apply, and new design practices, new operating rules, new management practices, and even new legislation altering water management policies and water rights, will be required. This conference is designed to help prepare water managers for these changes.

October 13-14, 2008 NGWA International Conference on Nonrenewable Groundwater Resources - Portland, OR

Many areas of the world rely on nonrenewable ground water resources, defined here as aquifer systems whose replenishment rates are so small that, for all practical purposes, their development is unsustainable and will eventually deplete the available water in storage. With the specter of global warming casting a pall of uncertainty over future water supplies, it is imperative that we manage these resources wisely by sharing our knowledge and learning from the experience of others who are dealing with these conditions and problems. To facilitate these interactions, NGWA, in association with the Institute for Water and Watersheds at Oregon State University, the International Hydrological Programme of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, and The World Bank, is conducting the first international meeting on nonrenewable ground water resources.

October 14-16, 2008 International Symposium on The Role of Hydrology in Water Resources Management - Isle of Capri, Naples, Italy

The purpose of the Symposium is to discuss ways in which hydrologists can contribute most effectively to the planning and management of freshwater projects, including the efficient operation of existing
systems faced with new socio-political situations. It will also address how water resource managers can capitalise on the hydrological expertise available to them. Hydrologists and water resource managers are invited to discuss these topics, taking into account the need to include more environmental, social and economic aspects in the planning and management of such projects, while keeping in mind the sustainability of water resource systems and related projects. As hydraulic and water management projects can have negative impacts on the environment, those with expertise in environmental matters will be particularly welcome.

November 17-19, 2008 2008 Mid-Atlantic Regional Water Resources Research Conference - Shepherdstown, WV

With the increasing demand for both water and energy, innovative approaches are needed to manage these two resources.  High oil and gasoline prices, climate change, and global politics place more demand on remaining U.S. coal, oil, and natural gas reserves.  In addition, the impetus is on developing new “greener” more “environmentally-friendly” energy sources.  Energy requires water in the production process. NJWRRI is a co-sponsor of this conference.

Call for abstracts: Deadline: June 30, 2008
